Has Trump Announced COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Vaccine? || Factly

A video clip is being shared widely on social
media platforms with the claim that American President Donald Trump has announced that
a medical company, Roche, is ready to launch a vaccine for COVID-19 on Sunday, and that
millions of doses are ready for usage. But if you actually watch the video and follow
what Trump and the CEO of Roche Diagnostics say in it, you will know that what the company
has produced is a diagnostic tool for COVID-19 that will help laboratories across America
to conduct the necessary tests to check for the presence of the virus in patients. Also, in a video released by the White House
on 13 March 2020, Trump announced that the FDA has approved a COVID-19 test developed
by Roche to increase and accelerate the country’s capacity to test for the virus. As per the website of the US National Institute
of Health, currently, there is no approved vaccine to prevent COVID-19 infection. But, Phase 1 of a clinical trial evaluating
an investigational vaccine designed to protect against COVID-19 began on 16 March 2020. As the video is related to a testing tool
and not a vaccine, this post is fake.
